Veterinary System Services was built out of firsthand experience in the veterinary industry — not boardroom theory. Founded in 2014, VSS was created to solve a real problem: veterinary practices struggling to find qualified, reliable relief staff, and professionals looking for flexible work without the runaround.
More than a decade later, that founding purpose hasn’t changed. We’ve grown our network, expanded our reach across nine states, and kept the same approach. In fact, we’re not the biggest staffing agency in the country. We’re the one that picks up the phone, knows your practice by name, and gets it right.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Once we have a staffing agreement in place, you are free to order as much, or as little as you wish. We have a proprietary scheduling app that you can use at your convenience to make requests. Our employees are W2’d through us. VSS will only bill you for the services you use.
Nothing up front. Generally, less than overtime. Our pricing is clearly stated up front on the Fee and Shift Schedule. Costs depend on the position and times the reliefer actually works (not what was scheduled), along with any additional services you request. You only pay for what you use. No monthly, subscription, or hidden fees.
Yes. There is an agreement that the client only needs to sign once. It clearly defines that there are No Obligations, No minimums, and that clients Only Pay for What They Use. Legal staffing services are required to have a formal relationship between them and the client. A contract must be in place for VSS to provide services.
You have full control over who is on your team. General requests are offered to all the qualified reliefers available to your practice. Our scheduling software also has a coordinated coverage option. You do not have to work with employees you’d prefer not to.
The likelihood of shift fulfillment increases with the more lead time that is provided. Sometimes we are able to fill short-notice shifts, even with just ‘hours’ notice.
No. We are subject to the same issues of any employer. We do our best, but we do not guarantee fulfillment.
All positions that require licensure or credentialing are guaranteed to have only people with those credentials able to take the shift. VSS is still the only employer that does a 10-panel, veterinary specific drug screen. Unlike regular drug screens, ours includes tests for Tramadol, Valium, and Fentanyl. Our background check goes deeper than just felonies. Our background check looks at misdemeanors in every state the employee has worked in. All that is in addition to multiple interviews and reference checks.
Yes. Our management team is made up of veterinary professionals. There are actual people here to help!
No. We bill about every two weeks for all the time actually worked within that billing period. It works within your general billing process so that you are not having to stop what you are doing to cut a check.
VSS does NOT employ 1099 employees. All employees are employed by VSS through a standard, legal W2 employment. VSS carries all the taxes, liability, and insurance. No 1099s! No tax obligations or liabilities.
